ScottishPower Solar Export Tariffs: SEG Rates 2026

Checked 10 July 2026: ScottishPower publishes three variable SmartGen export rates at 15p, 12p and 6p per kWh. Matching import supply is required for the two premium routes; the highest rate also requires ScottishPower-installed solar panels and/or a battery.

Does an existing ScottishPower account unlock 15p?

No. Import supply by itself matches the published 12p Premium condition. The 15p Premium Plus summary also requires solar panels and/or a battery installed by ScottishPower.

Payment schedule

ScottishPower says all three public SmartGen routes pay into the customer’s bank account every 90 days. The amount depends on measured export and the applicable rate at the time.

General SEG checks

• Eligible renewable technology and capacity.
• MCS or accepted equivalent certification.
• Half-hourly export measurement and an export MPAN.
• Ownership or authority to receive the export payment.
• No overlapping FIT export or SEG payment.
• Matching ScottishPower import supply for Premium and Premium Plus.

How to approach the application

1. Identify SmartGen, Premium or Premium Plus from the supply and installation facts.
2. Collect the MCS certificate, DNO evidence, meter details and proof of ownership.
3. Confirm that the meter can provide half-hourly export data and that an export MPAN exists or can be requested.
4. Record the opening export reading and wait for the confirmed start date.
5. Keep the 90-day payment statements so measured export can be reconciled with the applicable rate.

FIT and rate-change checks

A generator cannot receive both FIT export and SEG payments for the same units, although eligible FIT generation payments can continue after the export element is changed. ScottishPower describes all three current SmartGen rates as variable, so test a lower-rate case and do not assume 15p or 12p remains available for the life of the array.

Compare import and export together

At 2,000 exported kWh, moving from 6p to 12p adds £120 a year. Compare that with the full annual import cost before switching electricity supply. For Premium Plus, include the installed equipment price rather than valuing the export uplift in isolation.
