We aim to give you clear, useful information so you can ask informed questions and make decisions about your home.

We use reliable sources

For rules and funding, we turn to government departments, Ofgem, councils and the organisations running each scheme. For practical solar advice, we use sources such as Energy Saving Trust and MCS. Tariff details come from the supplier.

We link to the sources so you can read more. Where the answer depends on your property or circumstances, we explain who can help you check.

We explain estimates

Costs and savings vary between homes. We distinguish examples from quoted prices and show which figures a calculation uses. You can change the figures in our calculator to explore your own situation.

We make commercial relationships clear

Some quote requests and partner links can earn us a commission. We explain this where it matters. A partner does not approve our articles, receive a promised favourable review or pay for a position in our comparison tables.

We check information that can change

Tariffs, funding and rules can change after a guide is checked. A source-check date tells you when we reviewed that information. It does not mean a supplier will still offer the same rate when you apply.

We prioritise updates that affect costs, eligibility, safety or what you should do next. A wording change on its own does not count as a new check of every fact.

We correct mistakes

If an important fact changes or we get something wrong, we correct the guide and explain the change where readers need to know. You can send us a correction with the page link and the point you would like us to check.
