How to compare solar quotes without being misled by assumptions
Free, no-obligation quote
Comparing assumptions? Start with one quote you can inspect.
A quote is easier to judge when you know which assumptions to challenge.
- No pressure from Here4Solar
- Personalised home quote
- Check if solar could work
Takes about a minute to start. OVO handles quote details and suitability checks.
Two solar quotes can look similar while using very different assumptions. Compare the assumptions before comparing the headline payback.
Generation
Roof direction, shade, panel layout and local yield affect annual kWh.
Self-use
The more solar electricity you use at home, the more valuable each kWh usually is.
Export
SEG rates vary, so export income should be shown separately.
Build a like-for-like comparison
Put each quote into the same table. If one quote includes a battery and another does not, compare both with and without storage.
- Installed cost
- System size in kWp
- Annual generation
- Battery cost and capacity
- Self-consumption assumption
- Export rate
- Warranty and aftercare
Challenge the most optimistic number
If one quote shows much faster payback, ask why. It may be a better design, but it may also assume higher self-use, a better export tariff or lower maintenance costs.
